Green representatives from around the nation gathered in North Sydney on August 30th and agreed to form the Australian Greens. Existing state 
Green parties were incorporated and new bodies were created to form the Greens first truly national structure. This process was completed in October 2003 when the Western Australian Greens, who had historically been the most independent, voted overwhelmingly to join the national body.
